The global auditing firm KPMG in South Africa is to be inspected by United Kingdoms’ leading auditing supervisory body ‘Accountancy And Actuarial Discipline Board’. This, in accordance with and approval of the leading traded union federation, ‘Congress of South African Trade Unions’ (COSATU).

The investigation taking place would again be in connection with improper activities committed by a number of offshore companies. Many of these companies could be influenced into getting an arms contract in BAE’s favor. Leading British defense, security and aerospace company BAE Systems plc were advised by KPMG into using these companies by paying them commissions.
Businessman Fana Hlongwane, a former advisor to then-defense minister of South Africa, Joe Modise is also a key to the outcome of this investigation as even he finds himself in the probe which is getting uglier by the day.
A hefty sum of R200-million was allegedly paid to him by BAE. A lot seems to be going wrong in the scheme of things here. Previously, a string of corruption cases in terms arms deal investigated by South Africa’s Hawks unit were all of a sudden dropped. The Hawks on their part before shutting the case claimed for doing so due to a lack of “Manpower”.
The multibillion dollar deal of supplying aircrafts to South Africa by BAE was definitely not done without some help on part of quite a few influencing people. This latest probe and examination of KPMG is bound to reveal many of these influencers and thus bring them to the court of law. For once, a can full of worms seem to be all ready to open up.
